Weight loss

Weight loss peptides are short chains of amino acids that influence metabolic hormones, primarily by regulating appetite, energy expenditure, and fat storage, and are typically used in conjunction with diet and exercise under medical supervision. The most common peptides, such as semaglutide, belong to the Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist class, which mimics gut hormones to increase satiety and slow digestion. A newer agent, retatrutide, is a triple-hormone-receptor agonist that goes further by activating receptors for GLP-1, GIP, and Glucagon, offering a potent, multi-pronged approach that suppresses appetite while also actively increasing the body's energy expenditure and fat-burning processes. In contrast, MOTS-c (Mitochondrial ORF of the 12S rRNA Type-c) is a unique, naturally occurring peptide derived from mitochondrial DNA that works at a more fundamental cellular level; often described as an "exercise mimetic," it acts as a metabolic regulator to enhance insulin sensitivity and activate the AMPK pathway, promoting the efficient burning of fat and glucose in skeletal muscle.
